Grey Matter and Doctors Weigh In
The MRI results are in and they found a HEALTHY brain!! So that is good news. We have all four doctors opinions in as well. So I will give you quick update of information. Dr. Dunteman (pain) adjusted his medication to put less stress on the liver and to hopefully help Craig be more alert. He will try to do some nerve blocking to help also. This will be an outpatient procedure in the next week or two. Dr. Schultz was going to do chemo this Thurs. Plans have changed---read on. Dr. Cort said that indeed Craig was in liver failure and was concerned about Craig receiving treatment, however that we needed to discuss this with the oncologists and that he was going to as well. Dr. Taub said he did not like Craig's liver counts and to hold off chemo treatments until his bilirubin is at least a 3 and falling.
Okay. Now his bilirubin is a 6+ as of today so no chemo for Craig this week. He is scheduled for next week on Thursday. If his counts are falling into line he is going to go ahead and continue this chemo treatment. There is a danger that the liver MAY react in the same way again, however we will not know this until he has the treatment. This is Craig's decision and he feels like this is what he wants to do....keep fighting!! Dr. Cort did make it clear of the dangers, but he is also clear on the dangers of not treating.
His weight is down to #162. Carol M. has made some delicious meals this past week to try to fatten him up!!
Thanks so much! They are working....on me but, he is eating them too. His hair is thinning, but he is hanging on to what he's got. He does seem better today...more with it.
CRAIG:
Now it's my turn and I want to interject. (Long time, Huh?) On a different note hospital procedure requires you to avoid eating and drinking for so many hours before taking an MRI. (e.g. nothing after after 12:00 midnight).
Given that here's a little test I developed: How many hours must a person stop thinking before taking an MRI of the brain?
And last but not least the reason I passed the MRI is that my brain overpowered the piece of equipment and they didn't have a higher power one to replace it.
All kidding aside, we've had a rough start of the year. However those of you who participate in this BLOG provide support
prayers, thoughts, laughter and a simple kind word to get us through each and every day.
Thanks again for all you've done, Craig
